Internship Opportunities

Beyond the Lyrics is currently looking for qualified individuals to join our dynamic team through our three *intern positions: writer, social media intern and photography intern. The responsibilities, qualifications and requirements for each position are listed below. All submissions should be emailed to info@bey0ndthelyrics.com. 
 
Writer
The writer will be working to contribute to the content of the website. The responsibilities of the intern are as follows, but are not limited to:
  • Contributing analytical and critical written content to the website (2-3 posts per day). 
  •  Conduct interviews of Hip Hop artists, professors, scholars, etc. 
  •  Attend any conferences/events/panel discussions with the CEO or other individuals from the Management Team. 
    
The qualifications of the writer are as follows, but are not limited to:
  • Must be a high school senior or a student enrolled at an accredited college/university.
  •  Strong ability to critically analyze and break down Hip Hop lyrics to create a conversation/dialogue. 
  •  Excellent writing and research skills. 
  •  Ability to navigate Blogger. 
To apply please submit your resume, 1 page cover letter and a 300-500 word essay analyzing the lyrics of "Project Roach" by Nas or "Blue Sky" by Common. Your analysis should be conceptual including any literary or historical information.


Social Media Intern
The social media intern will be working to increase the visibility of Beyond the Lyrics. The responsibilities of the social media intern are as follows, but are not limited to:
  • Overseeing social media platforms: Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr. 
  •  Actively engage followers via social media platforms. 
  •  Actively participate in the #HipHopEd chat via Twitter every Tuesday at 9pm EST.
  •  Email tumblr content to CEO throughout the day and CEO will submit content on “The Music PRelude” tumblr page. All tumblr content for each day must be submitted before 5pm EST. 
  •  Attend any conference/events/panel discussions with the CEO or other individuals from the Management Team. 
  •  Tweet the live coverage of such conferences/events/panel discussions.

The qualifications of the social media intern are as follows, but are not limited to:
  • Must be a high school senior or a student enrolled at an accredited college/university.
  •  High level of experience with social media sites, and social media marketing. 
  •  Ability to use social media marketing knowledge to make recommendations for improvements. 
  •  Ability to navigate PR sites like Prlog, Ezine, Yahoo Contributor, etc.

Photography Intern
The photography intern will be in charge of all photography for Beyond the Lyrics. The responsibilities of the intern are as follows, but are not limited to: 
  • Attend interviews with intern, taking photos, which will be used in the published story. 
  •  Handle Beyond the Lyrics Instagram account. 
  •  Attend any conference/events/panel discussions with the CEO or other individuals from the Management Team.  
  •  Take photos of such conferences/events/panel discussions.

The qualifications of the photography intern are as follows, but are not limited to:
  • Must be a high school senior or a student enrolled at an accredited college/university. 
  •  Must have a portfolio of photography work prepared.

*All intern positions are unpaid, however Beyond the Lyrics will provide an internship experience like no other in which each student will be gaining enormous experience/knowledge for their desired career path. Beyond the Lyrics will provide funds for certain travel for events, conferences, etc.
